Building on the Rock

Prayer Guide

Prayer is a very important part of our church.  Please read and reflect on these words and our current monthly prayer diary is available at the bottom of the page.

One day Jesus was praying… when He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord teach us to pray” Luke 11:1

Adoration   ‘Be Still and know that I am God’ Ps 46:10.

Take some time to rest in God’s presence, to wait on Him, to meditate on who He is and ‘to hallow His Name’ Luke 11:2.

You may want to use the words of a song or a psalm to praise God or you may want to meditate on the promises of God or may just want to rest in His presence.

Thanksgiving

‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God’ Phil. 4:6

Take some time to thank the Lord for who He is, for the spiritual blessings you can know if you are a child of God, for answered prayer, for relational blessings, material blessings and for anything else that you would like to just say, ‘Thank You Father’.

Confession

‘My dear children… if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defence – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.  He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins…’ 1 John 2:1-2

‘If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness…’ 1 John 1:8-9

Are there sins of thought, word or deed that are a barrier to your intimacy with God that you need to confess? Are there things that you have done or have left undone that you need to go the Cross of Christ and ask forgiveness?

Respond to the call of Jesus Christ by praying, ‘Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors’ Matt 6:12, and THEN rejoice in our forgiven position because of the atoning work of Christ Jesus. Rejoice in the truth that God chooses to ‘Remember their sins no more’ Hebrews 8:12

Supplication

(presenting our requests to God)

‘If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you’ John 15:7

‘You do not have because you do not ask God.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives…’ James 4:2-3

Take some time to go to Our Father. Present to Him your personal needs and those of your family, friends, the church at home and abroad and of this land, ‘Give us today our daily bread…and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one’

Take some time to pray for those who do not yet have a personal relationship with Jesus, ‘Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven’.  Pray for your personal call to be salt and light in the places where God has purposed you to be.  Pray for the church and other organisations as they desire and seek to share the love of God with others.
